Steve Carell Returning to TV With Netflix's 'Space Force'

steve carrell set to star in new series on Netflix

Steve Carell is set to return to the office - but, Michael Scott will be nowhere in sight.

Netflix announced Wednesday that Carell was returning in a brand new workplace comedy "centered around the people with creating a sixth branch of the armed services."

The series refers to the 'Space Force' President Donald Trump's administration announced last year.

"The goal of the new branch is 'to defend satellites from attack' and 'perform other space-related tasks.' Or something," a Netflix promotional video says. "This is the story of the men and women who have to figure it out."

Carell co-created the series with his former "The Office" colleagues, Greg Daniels and Howard Klein. The series marks Carell's first starring television role since the NBC comedy which ran for nine seasons. He played a paper company's clueless boss, Michael Scott, until 2013.

No other information about possible stars or release date was announced.

Trump ordered the creation of"Space Command" in December, a move intended to be the first step toward the creation of a sixth branch of the armed forces, the U.S. Space Force.

Vice President Mike Pence said the administration hopes to "stand up the United States Space Force before the end of 2020."
