Efforts To Double In State's Burmese Python Roundup

The South Florida Water Management District's governing board has agreed to double its number of hunters who are trying to eradicate invasive Burmese pythons from the Everglades. That's something Gov. Ron DeSantis had requested as a way to boost efforts to remove the snakes.

The District also voted to give hunters access to more state and federal lands.

SFWMD pays hunters an hourly wage and a bounty based on the sizes of snakes rounded up. They also earn bonuses if eggs are present.

The program has eradicated more than 2,500 pythons from the Everglades since March 2017.
