Former Principal Who Questioned The Holocaust Wants His Job Back

The former high school principal whose Holocaust remarks in an email to a parent made national news is fighting to get his job back.

William Latson wrote in that email that he couldn't say that the Holocaust was a "factual, historical event."

The Palm Beach County School Board, months after Latson was reassigned from his post at Spanish River High, voted to fire him October 30th, but not for the comments themselves. Instead, they cited his failure to respond to messages from supervisors after the controversy was sparked last summer, while Latson was on vacation overseas.

His attorney sent a letter to the school district, requesting a hearing before an administrative law judge. It states that Latson did not engage in any misconduct.

The school board, in most cases, can ignore the recommendation of an administrative law judge, sending the case to a state circuit court judge, if Latson's attorneys so wish.

In the letter to the district, attorney Thomas Elfers asks that a judge recommend Latson to be restored to his position. He also asks that the man be compensated for attorney's fees and missed wages, though Latson has not missed any wages at this point. The school board voted to terminate him as of November 21.
