Many Florida Towns Celebrate National Night Out Tonight

DUNEDIN -- Tonight (Tuesday) is National Night Out Against Crime... at least in much of Florida.

The official National Night Out takes place in August... but since that's in the middle of Florida's rain and storm season, many communities move it to October. Places in Florida that celebrate the event today include Pinellas County, Orange County, Dunedin, Temple Terrace, and Port St. Lucie. National Night Out is designed to fight crime by getting neighbors to partner with police and each other to build a sense of community. Sarasota celebrates a week later (October 12th).
