TAMPA -- As we observe Earth Day, we pay homage to some students who have been helping the environment and turning garbage into artwork.

Students at a couple of schools in South Tampa have been helping the environment by turning trash into treasure.

Jenn Wan with the Florida Aquarium says students at Robinson High School and Lanier Elementary have been gathering garbage from beaches and waterways, and using it to create art. Jenn Wan with the Florida Aquarium says those items included goggles, frying pans and shoes.

Robinson High 10th-grader Audrey Coleman says it was "amazing" to see the trash transformed into "beauty,"

Students picked up more than 250 pounds of trash. Their art is now on display outside the Coral Reef gallery at the Florida Aquarium in downtown Tampa.

See photos of their work below.
