Lil Durk is facing two new felony charges in a superseding federal grand jury indictment.
On Friday, November 8, the Justice Department announced that the Chicago rapper has been hit with additional charges in connection to the alleged murder-for-hire plot against Quando Rondo. In a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office from the Central District of California, the artist, born Durk Banks, is charged with one count of use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death, and one count of using, carrying, and discharging firearms and a machine gun and possession of such firearms in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death.
"Mr. Banks is charged with orchestrating a cold-blooded murder that resulted in the death of a rival’s family member,” said United States Attorney Martin Estrada. “Not only that, the shooting occurred in the open, at a gas station at a busy intersection, endangering many others in the area. Violent gun crime of this sort is devastating to our community and we will have zero-tolerance for those who perpetrate such callous acts of violence.”
Prosecutors allege Banks conspired with five other people in his OTF crew to coordinate a shooting that targeted Quando Rondo. They claim the rapper put out a bounty on Rondo after his associate allegedly murdered his late friend King Von. An associate of Banks' allegedly coordinated with the hitmen and used finances from the rapper's account to book their flights on August 18 from Chicago to California. Durk reportedly flew in to L.A. on the same day as the hitmen with co-conspirator Kavon London Grant a.k.a "Vonnie." Grant allegedly bought ski masks for the mission and later used Bank's credit card to book hotel rooms for their co-conspirators.
The following day, the five men drove in cars to track down and stalk Rondo until he arrived at a gas station near the Beverly Center mall. The men allegedly used multiple guns to fire 18 rounds at Rondo's car. They missed their target, but inadvertently killed his cousin Saviay'a Robinson a.k.a. Lul Pab instead.
Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston were also arrested last month. They remain in federal custody in Illinois on charges of one count of conspiracy, one count of use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death, and one count of using, carrying and discharging firearms and a machine gun and possession of such firearms in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death. Jones faces an additional count of possession of a machine gun.
Lil Durk was initially arrested in Miami last month but was recently transferred to California. If convicted, all six defendants could face a maximum sentence of life in federal prison.
