Florida is making strides when it comes to Everglades restoration.

Governor Ron DeSantis says that $3.3 billion in projects were completed during his first term and two years into his second term, the state is already close to the goal of $3.5 billion.

He's hopeful that President-elect Trump will give the state more autonomy when it comes to getting projects done.

"Empower us to get the job done and we will make it happen."

DeSantis says the federal government over the past four years has been slow to finish projects like the EAA or Everglades Agricultural Area Reservoir, which is to the south of Lake Okeechobee.

"We will manage these projects and we will execute these projects on behalf of the federal government because Lord knows we'll do it a helluva lot quicker than they will do it."

He says Trump was helpful in this way during his first term in office.

The governor also said that he will be allocating a record $805 million to water quality projects.
