Rays Rally To Stun Yankees

The Tampa Bay Rays (9-12) rallied to defeat the New York Yankees (13-8) 10-8 on Saturday afternoon at Steinbrenner Field. With the win, the Rays snapped their losing skid at four games.

The Rays trailed 8-4 going into the bottom of the ninth after New York scored twice in the top of the frame to add what they hoped would be enough insurance runs to win the game. The Rays had other ideas, though, rallying with four runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game 8-8 and force extras. After a scoreless top of the tenth, Jonathan Aranda hit a walk-off, two-run homer to lift the Rays to 10-8 win.

It was the first time since 2011 the Rays rallied won a game in which they trailed by four runs in the ninth inning.

The Rays will now look to salvage a split in the four-game divisional series coming up on Sunday. First pitch from Steinbrenner Field is scheduled for 1:40 PM Sunday afternoon - pregame coverage begins with Chris Adams-Wall hosting This Week In Rays Baseball at high noon on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
