True crime and comedy. Two subjects you don't often see paired together; however, a unique new adventure, sure to intrigue all true crime enthusiasts with a funny bone, will have you laughing and looking for clues in equal measure.
Tenderfoot TV and iHeartPodcasts this week launched the new podcast Wisecrack, a six-part limited series that all began when TV producer Jodi Tovay listened to stand-up comedian Edd Hedges describe the "scariest night of my life," detailing the horrific murders committed by a neighbor who ended up at his own home in the middle of the night.
According to the podcast description: "Part comedy special, part true crime thriller, Wisecrack blends punchlines with plot twists in a genre-defying ride where the laughs are real and the danger is no joke."
The first episode "Knock, Knock" dropped September 2, setting the tone for the rest of the series. In it, Tovay describes watching Hedges' comedy set at a club in Scotland where he told the crowd of the night in 2015 he was awoken by an aggressive pounding on his front door and saw a woman standing at the end of his bed, staring out the window and offering a spine-tingling warning: "Whatever you do, do not turn on the lights."
"The thing is, I walked in the show that night seeking a brief escape, a quick laugh while the rain passed," Tovay said. "What I found was a story, one that would shape my life for the next nine years."
