The term "admin" was the most commonly used password in the United States in 2025, according to the latest NordPass report obtained by FOX News.

NordPass and NordStellar, which track leaked credentials and online threats, reviewed millions of exposed passwords to figure out trends and examined how password habits differ between various generations. The companies' analysis showed that many users still rely on simple words, easy number strings and familiar typing patterns.

"Amid" was the most used password while some variation of the word "password" took up five spots and number strings appeared five times among the 20 most common passwords of 2025 among U.S. users. The full list is included below:

  1. admin
  2. password

Weak logins create a serious problem as criminals rely on automated tools which try simple words and common patterns first, which is more likely when millions of users use the same easy passwords. Globally, "123456" is the most common password used while "Admin" and "12345678" are a close second and third.

The simple terms are commonly used because they're easy for the user to remember, however, pose a threat because they're also easy to crack.
