Suspect in Custody After Elderly Couple Thwarts Carjacking Attempt

Ormond Beach, FL - Ormond Beach Police arrested a 36-year-old Jacksonville woman following a thwarted carjacking attempt at an Exxon gas station on Saturday morning.

Officers responded to a stolen vehicle call around 10:50 am and arrived to find a dramatic scene.

One of the car's owners, an elderly man, was holding onto Marvette Perry, leg, preventing her from escaping.

According to reports, Perry entered the unlocked vehicle while the man was momentarily outside the car.

The man's wife remained in the passenger seat.

A struggle ensued, with the man eventually restraining Perry until police arrived.

A bystander, witnessing the commotion, initially drew a firearm on Perry,

believing her to be a threat. He lowered the weapon upon realizing she appeared unarmed.

Perry faces charges of carjacking, burglary with assault, and resisting arrest.

While initially resisting, she was ultimately taken into custody. Police say she claimed to have schizophrenia and acted out of stress.

Fortunately, the elderly couple sustained no injuries during the incident.
