Broward County, FL - The Lauderdale-by-the-Sea town commission is scheduled to vote Wednesday on a proposal to add “President Donald J. Trump Drive” to one street sign on Seagrape Drive.

The proposed change would affect only the sign at the intersection of Commercial Boulevard and Seagrape Drive, while all other signs in the neighborhood would remain unchanged.

Seagrape Drive is a quiet residential street with many longtime residents.

The proposal has drawn mixed reactions from the community.

Some residents oppose the change.

Camille Frison described the idea to CBS Miami as “sheer insanity,” and Frank Zemola said he did not want a Trump-related sign in the neighborhood.

Others expressed support.

Gregory Dalman suggested replacing the street name entirely with Trump’s, while Chris Spellman said the change was positive because of Trump’s accomplishments.

Jennifer Connole noted that streets already honor other politicians and saw no issue with the proposal.

Some residents compared the proposal to other politically named streets in Florida, such as President Donald Trump Avenue in Hialeah and Barack Obama Boulevard in West Park.

One resident, Lourdes, said a Trump-related street name might influence her decision to move.

The town commission is expected to hear public comments from supporters and opponents before making a decision.

The meeting was scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
