MIAMI, FL — Two Miami Police officers are recovering after being shot. Miami Police Chief Manny Morales says it started shortly after they left the area after calling for a tow truck to remove an abandoned car in the middle of Northwest 15th Avenue and 26th Street. Then they got a report of gunfire in the same area.
"Upon arrival they see a vehicle that was riddled with bullets, and immediately they began to receive shots," Morales said.
He says one officer was shot in the knee, another was hit in the ankle.
The suspect is believed to have come out of a home and exchanged gunfire with officers and then went back inside leading to an hours-long standoff. 27-year-old Mason Triana was found dead inside hours later.
A second person was taken into custody.
