Even though it's an off year for Florida elections, some cities and counties will hold elections for mayor, city and county council seats Tuesday.

Miami-Dade voters will select a new mayor of Miami and two commissioners in districts 3 and 5.

Miami's Incumbent mayor Francis Suarez is term-limited and cannot run for a third term, so a crowded field has emerged to replace him.

Some of the front runners include current Miami-Dade Commissioner Eileen Higgins, Miami City Commissioner Joe Carollo, former Miami City Manager Emilio Gonzalez and former Miami City Commissioner Ken Russell.

Also, 13 candidates are running for mayor, and 11 others are vying for city commissioner.

If no candidates receive a majority of the vote, there will be a runoff election. Early voting began October 25th.

Meanwhile, Monroe County voters will select a new Marathon City Council.

In Orange County voters will fill three district council seats, 1,3 and 5. In Volusia County voters will select a new Mayor of Lake Helen. Polk County voters will elect a new Lakeland mayor, and Pinellas County will elect a new mayor of Seminole.

And there will be another special election in December in Senate District 11 to replace Blaise Ingoglia, who left to become Gov. Ron DeSantis' Chief Financial Officer in July.

Marco Rubio resigned his senate seat to become United States Secretary of State under President Donald Trump. Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed his attorney general Ashley Moody to fill Rubio's senate seat. The election to fill that seat will be held on Nov. 3rd, 2026, with a primary on Aug. 18, 2026.
